For today’s Interview with an author, we have Owen Mullen on to tell us about his book. In harm’s way.
“Please explain the WHY you wrote the book”
In Harm’s way was inspired by the #metoo movement. After many wonderful conversations with a very strong lady who survived several encounters, I knew where I wanted to take it. I have plans for two follow-ups to this novel.
My wife Christine and I decided we would fulfill lifelong ambitions to live in the sun. We built a wonderful villa in Crete overlooking the very picturesque Lefka Ori mountains and Souda Bay. It was wonderful…but it wasn’t enough. I needed something to do. After spending most of my life in the music business you would think this would be where I would find what I needed, but it just didn’t call me. I loved my time in music but it was over. I literally got up one morning and announced that I was going to write a book. I did write that book and several more. It wasn’t long before I realized this was what I was meant to do. This was always what I was meant to do, but I had been distracted by music. Now my whole life revolves around creating interesting and memorable characters, placing them in difficult situations, and waiting to see who emerges from the drama intact.
Crime novels will always sell and I think given the timing of the meetoo movement the readers will be drawn to the plot. I don’t generally read crime novels but will always give something a go once. The one thing that gripped me was a desire to see how the story plays out. I’m a sucker for a good story and especially when a family member goes missing it draws in the reader if the author does a decent job.
